The Medical Investigation Assistant plays a crucial role in the Office of the Medical Investigator (OMI) at the University of New Mexico, assisting in the investigation of sudden, violent, or unexplained deaths across the state. This position involves locating next of kin for death reports, reviewing documentation and evidence from death scenes, and requires a strong attention to detail and analytical skills. The role is set in a challenging environment, necessitating comfort with the sights and smells associated with medical investigations.

Responsibilities

• Assist in locating next of kin for reports of death for all OMI cases in New Mexico.
• Review documentation and evidence from death scenes.
• Perform data entry with a high degree of attention to detail.
• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with various stakeholders.
• Provide on-the-job and technical guidance and training to staff.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• At least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
• Strong analytical skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Skill in the use of personal computers and related software applications.
• Ability to manage and impart confidential information.
• Knowledge of death investigation reporting procedures.
• Ability to work in a death environment.
