The Medical Lab Assistant plays a crucial role in the clinical laboratory by performing preanalytic specimen collection, handling, and communication duties. This position requires proficiency in operating electronic applications for scheduling and data management, ensuring accurate and timely service for both LLUMC and LLUCH hospitals. The role is essential for maintaining effective communication with internal and external customers while managing specimen-related tasks efficiently.

Responsibilities

• Perform preanalytic specimen collection and identification.
• Handle order entry and verification of specimens.
• Manage specimen handling and communication duties.
• Receive and triage phone calls from customers, relaying messages accurately.
• Operate multiple electronic applications for scheduling appointments and ordering tests.
• Record patient information and obtain test results as needed.
• Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of one year experience in a high complexity medical lab performing specimen collection and computer data entry preferred.
• California Phlebotomy Technician certification required.
• Basic Life Support certification required.
• Valid driver's license required at time of hire.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in pediatric collections preferred.
• Excellent dexterity and analytic skills.
• Ability to manage workload and operate technical instruments.
