About the position
The Medical Lab Scientist at MacNeal Cancer Center plays a crucial role in supporting patient care by performing laboratory testing essential for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. This part-time position involves conducting various levels of laboratory tests, ensuring quality control, and participating in method validation to meet patient needs.
Responsibilities
- Performs all laboratory testing, including the pre-examination phase in accordance with standard operating procedures and accreditation guidelines.
- Conducts and documents established quality control procedures on analytical tests, equipment, reagents, media, and products; evaluates results and implements corrective actions as necessary.
- Participates in the validation of laboratory methods and procedures to meet changing health care needs.
- Recognizes and documents problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of results; implements corrective actions or notifies appropriate personnel.
- Supports on-site, rapid testing for infusion patients.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or Associate Degree in Medical Technology, Medical Technician, or Medical Laboratory Science.
- Experience with waived, moderate, and high complexity testing in a clinical laboratory setting.
Nice-to-haves
- Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP) or equivalent certification.
- Laboratory certification required (ASCP or HEW).
