About the position

The Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) plays a crucial role in performing diagnostic tests in a medical laboratory to provide essential data for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. This position ensures the validity and accuracy of test results while engaging in a high-quality, consumer-centric experience as part of Health First's clinical team. The MLS is responsible for conducting various clinical laboratory tests, maintaining laboratory equipment, and adhering to established policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform clinical laboratory testing of various complexities in a timely and efficient manner.
• Engage in quality control on various laboratory tests to ensure accuracy and validity.
• Assist lab supervisor in validating new tests, equipment, or methodologies.
• Perform regular maintenance on laboratory analyzers and troubleshoot testing systems.
• Communicate effectively with laboratory staff and external clinical departments.
• Cross-train in other departments within the laboratory as directed by the supervisor.
• Report departmental needs and issues to the supervisor.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Lab Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field.
• Medical Technologist licensure by the State of Florida in accordance with CLIA.
• Proficient in required computer applications and basic computer skills.
• Strong critical thinking, prioritization, and organizational skills.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills in English.

Nice-to-haves

• Medical Laboratory Scientist certification by American Society for Clinical Pathology (MLS(ASCP)).
• 2 years of experience in a clinical laboratory.
