The Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) - Microbiology position at Avera McKennan Hospital involves performing a variety of clinical laboratory tests and procedures, particularly in the field of microbiology. Responsibilities

• Perform moderate to high complexity Microbiology testing procedures in accordance with established protocols.
• Assure integrity of specimens during all phases of testing.
• Perform various slide preparations and staining techniques.
• Maintain complete documentation and competency for all steps of processes as outlined in standard operating procedures and policies.
• Analyze, interpret, and record patient test results into the electronic medical record with high accuracy.
• Troubleshoot assay, reagent, and instrument issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree with completion of NAACLS accredited Medical Laboratory Scientist program, or Bachelor's Degree & one to two years of Medical Laboratory Scientist experience acceptable to the ASCP or AMT.
• Certification as Medical Laboratory Scientist from the ASCP or AMT within one year of hire date.
• Microbiology experience is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in bacteriology, mycobacteriology, mycology, parasitology, virology, and molecular-based infectious disease Microbiology.
