About the position

Join our team as a PRN Medical Lab Scientist or Medical Lab Technician in Athens, TX. At UT Health Athens, we prioritize our people, ensuring that every member of our team feels valued and supported. Our facility is a 127-bed institution that includes a 24-hour emergency department, designated as a Level IV trauma center and Level III stroke center. We are equipped with advanced diagnostic technology, a 10-bed ICU, a maternity unit, a radiation therapy center, and a stand-alone emergency department in Gun Barrel City. As a Medical Lab Scientist or Technician, you will be responsible for the performance of clinical laboratory testing that is crucial for patient care and diagnosis. Your role will involve performing routine and special laboratory procedures, ensuring quality control, conducting preventative maintenance, managing inventory, and compiling statistical data. You will also participate in quality assurance initiatives, performance improvement projects, laboratory education, and training of new employees, as well as proficiency testing when assigned. This position is essential in maintaining the high standards of our laboratory services and contributing to the overall success of our healthcare team.

Responsibilities

  • Function as a professional responsible for clinical laboratory testing related to patient care and diagnosis.
  • Perform routine and special laboratory procedures, ensuring quality control and preventative maintenance.
  • Conduct minor equipment repairs and manage inventory control.
  • Compile statistical data related to laboratory performance.
  • Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Engage in laboratory education and training for new employees.
  • Conduct proficiency testing when assigned.

Requirements

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or an Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technician Studies or a related field.
  • Current knowledge of clinical laboratory techniques and principles.

Nice-to-haves

  • ASCP or equivalent certification in a specific area (e.g., M(ASCP), H(ASCP), C(ASCP)).
  • Previous clinical laboratory experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Laboratory Scientist.
