About the position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Technician (MLT) at St Mary's Hospital is responsible for performing a variety of laboratory tests on patient samples to detect diseases. This role involves operating lab equipment, analyzing results, and consulting with physicians regarding findings. The position requires a commitment to quality control and may involve developing new testing methods based on experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex laboratory procedures; interpret and analyze results.
• Identify and correct problems within the scope of training and education.
• Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and validate lab equipment.
• Perform, record, and evaluate Quality Control.
• Assist Lead, Supervisor, or Manager with inventory, schedules, and safety.
• Conduct competency assessments.
• May be responsible for developing and evaluating new methods of testing.

Requirements

• MLS Medical Lab Scientist Certification or eligible by a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP) (required).
• Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Laboratory Science/Biomedical Science/Biology/Biochemistry from a CLIA approved program (required).
• Externship program completed (preferred).
