About the position
The Medical Lab Scientist at Intermountain Health is responsible for performing a variety of laboratory tests that are essential for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. This role offers valuable experience and opportunities for career advancement, including responsibilities such as quality control, technical writing, and mentoring new staff. The position requires strong organizational skills and attention to detail, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory tests in various departments such as Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, and Transfusion.
- Act as a technical expert to clinical staff and co-workers.
- Ensure accurate results through quality control, proficiency testing, and instrument maintenance.
- Take on additional responsibilities such as key operator, QC review, and training new staff.
- Assist with evaluation and validation of new equipment and compliance readiness (CAP, CLIA, etc.).
- Act as interim Team Lead when necessary.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory/medical technology science from an accredited institution.
- Medical Technologist / Medical Lab Scientist certification or equivalent certification approved by Manager and Human Resources.
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts including weekends, holidays, nights, and on-call.
Nice-to-haves
- SCYM ASCP certification
- Experience with laboratory information systems.
- Experience in relevant areas of the clinical laboratory.
- Demonstrated ability to use laboratory systems, databases, and spreadsheets.
- Effective communication skills using email, telephone, and in person.
