About the position
The Medical Lab Scientist at Intermountain Health is responsible for performing a variety of laboratory tests that are essential for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. This role not only involves technical expertise in various laboratory departments but also offers opportunities for career advancement through additional responsibilities such as training new staff and acting as a team lead. The position requires a high level of detail and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform laboratory tests in departments such as Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, and Transfusion.
- Act as a technical expert to clinical staff and co-workers.
- Ensure accurate results through quality control, proficiency testing, and instrument maintenance.
- Take on additional responsibilities such as key operator, QC review, and training new staff.
- Assist with evaluation and validation of new equipment and technical writing.
- Maintain compliance with CAP, CLIA, and other regulations.
- Act as interim Team Lead when necessary.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory/medical technology science from an accredited institution.
- Medical Technologist / Medical Lab Scientist certification or equivalent certification.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends, holidays, nights, and on-call.
Nice-to-haves
- SCYM ASCP certification
- Experience with laboratory information systems
- Experience in relevant areas of the clinical laboratory
- Demonstrated ability to use laboratory systems, databases, and spreadsheets
- Effective communication skills using email, telephone, and in person.
