About the position

The Medical Lab Tech position at UNC Health's Rex Holly Springs Core Laboratory involves performing entry-level patient testing and administrative tasks to support clinical activities. This role is crucial in driving healthcare innovation and improving the health and well-being of the community. The ideal candidate will have an Associate's degree in Medical Lab Technology or a related field and will be eligible for ASCP or AMT certification within the first year of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs patients in preparing for tests that require fasting and answers patient questions regarding the tests.
  • Maintains equipment and investigates problems with equipment.
  • Assists in teaching Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents and training of new employees.
  • Monitors daily operation of laboratory section or work area.
  • Participates on teams or individually performs special projects/assignments.
  • Performs a variety of routine and standardized tests using standard techniques and equipment, prepares specimens, resolves specimen problems, and performs analytical tests.
  • Prepares reagents and assists in the preparation of standard and control materials, monitors levels of reagents, and assists in maintaining supplies.
  • Records results of tests and maintains records, providing test results and reporting deviations from the norm to supervisor or ordering physician.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technician, Chemical Science, or Biological Science.
  • ASCP or AMT Board of Certification eligibility within the first year of employment if holding an Associate's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technician.
  • If holding an Associate's degree in chemical or biological science, ASCP or AMT Board of Certification (BOC) is required.
