About the position

The Medical Laboratory Technician/Technologist (MLT) at VillageMD plays a crucial role in ensuring accurate laboratory testing and patient safety within a high-volume, accredited laboratory environment. This position involves collaborating with a dedicated laboratory team to maintain compliance with health regulations, perform various laboratory tests, and manage laboratory supplies, all while focusing on delivering exceptional service to the healthcare team and patients.

Responsibilities

  • Verifying patient identification and correctly labeling all specimens using aseptic technique and universal precautions.
  • Performing all waived and moderately complex tests as defined by CLIA '88 accurately and timely.
  • Maintaining a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following laboratory standards and procedures while complying with legal regulations of OSHA, HIPPA, CLIA, and the Texas Department of State Health Services.
  • Ensuring quality control, quality assessment, and associated corrective actions are implemented.
  • Calibrating analyzers and other laboratory equipment to ensure accurate operations.
  • Completing preventative maintenance requirements and troubleshooting malfunctions of laboratory equipment.
  • Maintaining laboratory supplies inventory, anticipating needed supplies, placing and expediting orders, and verifying receipt of supplies.
  • Preparing reports of technological findings by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
  • Interacting with VillageMD Houston personnel, physicians, and patients for incoming laboratory orders and/or reporting results according to policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Associate degree (MLT) and ASCP, AMT, HHS or successful completion of 50+ weeks of military training serving as a medical laboratory specialist required.
  • High school diploma required.
  • Availability for day shift.
  • Diverse history in the clinical laboratory field.
  • Experience with LIS and EMR is a plus.
