About the position

The Medical Lab Technician (MLT) is responsible for performing laboratory work accurately and promptly across various divisions of the laboratory. This role includes routine laboratory tasks, quality control, and assisting in training new staff. The MLT will also engage in problem-solving and troubleshooting to ensure the integrity of test results and maintain compliance with laboratory standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine laboratory work in various divisions of the lab.
• Keep work area clean and neat at all times.
• Assist in training new lab employees, student technicians, and aides.
• Follow lab procedures for specimen acquisition, handling, processing, and reporting test results.
• Use appropriate quality control and verify QC criteria before releasing reports.
• Document all QC activities, instrument calibrations, and maintenance performed.
• Complete annual competency assessments for each lab section and test method assigned.
• Assist in competency assessments of other testing staff as assigned.
• Identify problems that may affect test performance or reporting of results.
• Notify section head or director of unresolved problems immediately.
• Document corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
• Assist with performance improvement activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned by a section head, lab director, or Pathologist.

Requirements

• Must be registered or eligible as a MLT, CLT (ASCP), or MLT (AMT).
• Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
• Demonstrated organizational skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to work independently.
• Effective communication skills.
