Capital Health Medical Group is made up of more than 250 physicians and other providers who offer primary and specialty care, as well as hospital-based services, to patients throughout the region. The position involves performing all testing accurately and timely within the assigned section using computer linked automated electronic equipment and/or manual methodologies. The role requires performing routine procedures accurately requiring subjective analysis under supervision, as well as procedures relevant to the routine operation and maintenance of analytical equipment in their assigned sections. Responsibilities include preparing samples of blood and body fluids for analysis, recording accurate and timely results, and adhering to established infection control practices and quality assurance standards. The position also involves using knowledge of quality control methods, consulting with technical supervisors and pathologists regarding atypical results, and providing age-appropriate care when performing phlebotomy or other direct patient services. Additionally, the role includes instructing student technicians and staff members as required and performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Education: Associate's degree in science related field; degree in medical laboratory sciences preferred.
  • Experience: Previous clinical laboratory employment.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Familiarity with personal computers; ability to interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Special Training: Completion of training in medical technology program or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine procedures accurately requiring subjective analysis under supervision.
  • Prepares samples of blood and body fluids for analysis ensuring appropriateness of sample and patient identity.
  • Records accurate and timely results of analysis using manual and electronic reporting methods.
  • Follows established infection control practices and adheres to quality assurance standards.
  • Uses knowledge of quality control methods to determine the acceptability of results.
  • Consults with technical supervisors and pathologists regarding atypical results.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide age appropriate care when performing phlebotomy.
  • Instructs student technicians and staff members as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
