Medical Laboratory Assistant II

About the position

The Medical Laboratory Assistant II at Novant Health is responsible for performing a variety of laboratory procedures, including quality control, specimen collection, processing, testing, and reporting of lab results. This role also involves assisting in the evaluation of new techniques, training other personnel, and managing various laboratory responsibilities depending on the assigned department. The position emphasizes teamwork and a commitment to providing quality healthcare services.

Responsibilities

• Perform all laboratory procedures including quality control, specimen collection, processing, testing, and reporting of lab results.
• Assist in the evaluation of new or modified techniques as required.
• Advise and assist in the orientation and training of other personnel on equipment and software.
• Manage supply orders and inventory, instrumentation maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Oversee vendor relationships and assist in procedure writing as needed.
• Foster a safe patient environment driven by the principles of 'First Do No Harm'.
• Deliver remarkable patient experiences in every dimension, every time.

Requirements

• Associate degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science or medical laboratory or equivalent education and training.
• MLT Certification from ASCP or AMT is required.
• Three years of experience as a medical laboratory technician is required.
• One year of experience as a laboratory scientist for specialty areas (BB, Flow, and Micro) is preferred.
• Knowledge of current medical terminology and laboratory equipment.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in specialty areas such as Blood Bank, Flow Cytometry, and Microbiology.
• Certification maintenance through ASCP or AMT programs.
