About the position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist I/MLT position at HSHS St. Francis Hospital is responsible for conducting a variety of tests on patient samples to detect health conditions. Utilizing biomedical instrumentation, microscopes, and computers, the Medical Laboratory Scientist provides critical data to physicians and healthcare providers for diagnosis and treatment purposes. This role is essential in ensuring accurate laboratory results that contribute to patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct a variety of tests on patient samples including blood, body fluids, cells, and tissue.
  • Utilize biomedical instrumentation and microscopes to analyze samples.
  • Provide data to physicians and healthcare providers for diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory standards and protocols.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and perform routine maintenance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university with courses in biological science, chemistry, and mathematics.
  • Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) program, or Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) certification with 2 years of full-time lab experience in an accredited lab.
  • Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Technologist, or eligibility for certification by a recognized certifying agency (e.g., ASCP, NCA).
  • Experience in an accredited lab is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification must be received within 180 days of hire.
  • Physician Enterprise: Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) certification is preferred.
