About the position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS or MLT) is responsible for performing a variety of laboratory tests on patient samples to detect diseases. This part-time position involves working primarily in the afternoons and nights, where the scientist will analyze different types of samples and report findings to physicians, ensuring accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine and complex laboratory procedures; interprets and analyzes results.
• Identifies and corrects problems within the scope of training and education.
• Operates, maintains, troubleshoots, and validates lab equipment.
• Performs, records, and evaluates Quality Control.
• Assists Lead, Supervisor, or Manager with inventory, schedules, and safety.
• Conducts competency assessments.
• May be responsible for developing and evaluating new methods of testing, depending on their experience and position.

Requirements

• MLS Medical Lab Scientist Certification or eligible by a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP) (required)
• Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Laboratory Science/Biomedical Science/Biology/Biochemistry through a CLIA approved program (required)
• Externship program completed (preferred)
• Skills in active listening, service orientation, coordination, verbal and written communication, problem solving, customer service, organization, time management, keyboarding, Microsoft Office, telephone skills, lab information systems, laboratory diagnostic tests, data analysis, laboratory equipment, quality assurance and control, documentation, FDA health laws and regulations, and medical terminology.
