About the position

HSHS St. Joseph's Hospital in Highland, Illinois, is seeking a dedicated Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join our team. This position is crucial in performing routine tests in the medical laboratory, utilizing advanced biomedical instrumentation, microscopes, and computer systems to analyze patient samples. The data generated from these tests is vital for physicians and healthcare providers in diagnosing and treating various diseases. The role is based in Effingham, IL, and reports directly to the Laboratory Manager. This position requires the ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy. The successful candidate will demonstrate problem-solving skills and the capability to troubleshoot issues efficiently, even in high-pressure situations. Responsibilities

  • Perform routine tests in the medical laboratory using biomedical instrumentation, microscopes, and computers.
  • Analyze patient samples and provide data to physicians and healthcare providers for diagnosis and treatment.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems in laboratory processes while maintaining accuracy under pressure.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and healthcare team members to ensure quality care.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university with courses in biological science, chemistry, and mathematics for Medical Laboratory Scientist.
  • Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) program.
  • For Medical Laboratory Technician, an Associate's degree is required with successful completion of a NAACLS accredited medical laboratory technician program.
  • Eligibility for certification by a nationally recognized certifying agency such as ASCP, NCA, or AMT is required.
  • Experience in an accredited lab is preferred.
