About the position

Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) is seeking a dedicated Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to join our team at St. Anthony's Hospital in Effingham, IL. This position is crucial in performing routine tests in the medical laboratory, utilizing advanced biomedical instrumentation, microscopes, and computer systems to analyze patient samples. The data generated from these tests is vital for physicians and healthcare providers in diagnosing and treating various diseases. The role is based in Effingham, IL, and reports directly to the Laboratory Manager. The ideal candidate will possess strong verbal communication skills and excellent listening abilities, enabling them to work effectively under pressure and within tight deadlines. A successful Medical Laboratory Technician or Scientist will demonstrate a high level of accuracy in their work, quickly troubleshoot issues, and build positive rapport with patients. This position requires a proactive approach to problem-solving and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of laboratory practices. Responsibilities

  • Perform routine tests in the medical laboratory using biomedical instrumentation, microscopes, and computers.
  • Analyze patient samples and provide data to physicians and healthcare providers for diagnosis and treatment.
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy in laboratory testing and reporting.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems in laboratory processes and equipment.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and healthcare team members.
  • Work within tight timeframes and meet strict deadlines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university with courses in biological science, chemistry, and mathematics for Medical Laboratory Scientist.
  • Successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) program.
  • For Medical Laboratory Technician, an Associate's degree is required with successful completion of a NAACLS accredited medical laboratory technician program.
  • At least 60 academic credit hours including 6 hours of chemistry and 6 hours of biology for Medical Laboratory Technician candidates.
  • Eligibility for certification by a nationally recognized certifying agency such as ASCP, NCA, or AMT is required.
  • Experience in an accredited lab is preferred.
