About the position

As a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLT, MLS) at Backus Hospital, you will play a crucial role in the healthcare system by performing, interpreting, and correlating clinical laboratory tests. Your work will directly assist physicians in diagnosing and treating illnesses and diseases. This position requires a strong foundation in laboratory practices, as you will be expected to follow established protocols and utilize complex problem-solving skills to resolve clinical and instrument-related issues. You will be working as a laboratory generalist, which means you will rotate through all areas of the laboratory, ensuring a comprehensive understanding of various testing procedures and methodologies. The job is structured as a full-time position with standard hours of 40 per week, including rotating weekends and holidays. This schedule is designed to meet the needs of our patients and the healthcare community, emphasizing the importance of flexibility and commitment in this role. Responsibilities

  • Perform, interpret, and correlate clinical laboratory tests following established protocols.
  • Utilize complex problem-solving skills to resolve clinical and instrument problems.
  • Work as a laboratory generalist across all areas of the laboratory.
  • Adopt H3W Leadership behaviors and act as a strong ambassador for the organization.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and applicable regulatory requirements to maintain a safe laboratory environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university with 16 semester hours in biology (including one semester in microbiology) and 16 semester hours in chemistry (including one semester in organic or biochemistry).
  • One (1) year of experience working as a technologist in a clinical laboratory.
  • ASCP or equivalent categorical/generalist certification within 90 days of employment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication (verbal, written, and listening) skills.
  • Good leadership abilities.
