About the position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLT or MLS) position in Owasso, OK, is a contract role with the potential for permanent placement. The role involves performing a variety of laboratory tests and procedures, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of test results, and maintaining a safe and efficient laboratory environment. The position requires a generalist skill set, including experience in hematology, coagulation, and urinalysis, along with basic blood bank experience.

Responsibilities

  • Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
  • Perform routine and complex technical procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
  • Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls.
  • Report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care.
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
  • Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
  • Assist with processing of specimens when needed.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Proficient with computers; familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus.
  • High level of attention to detail along with strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screen.
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science.
  • BS in Chemical, Physical, or Biological Science from an accredited college or university with at least 1 year of training or experience in the specialty in which testing will be performed.
  • 90 Semester hours from an accredited institution that include 16 semester hours of Biology courses, 16 semester hours of chemistry (including at least 6 hours of inorganic Chemistry), and 3 Semester hours of Math, along with having completed an accredited Clinical Laboratory training program or 1 year of documented Clinical Laboratory Training or experience in the specialty that testing is to be performed.
  • Associates Degree in Medical Technology.

Nice-to-haves

  • ASCP or AMT certification preferred.
