About the position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist at Ochsner Clinic Foundation is responsible for receiving and preparing specimens, performing laboratory tests, and ensuring quality control in a clinical setting. This role plays a crucial part in diagnosing and treating diseases by providing accurate laboratory data while adhering to safety and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and prepares specimens according to standard protocols and procedures.
  • Performs laboratory tests and calculations to provide data for diagnosis and treatment of disease.
  • Conducts quality control procedures and evaluates test performance and results.
  • Calibrates, maintains, and monitors equipment used in analytical determinations.
  • Performs phlebotomy procedures as appropriate.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient-related information.
  • Adheres to regulatory compliance guidelines and maintains awareness of accreditation standards.
  • Participates in performance improvement opportunities and supports business development initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • Current license or temporary license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Generalist or Specialist in the state of practice.
  • ASCP certification as a Medical Technologist.
  • Knowledge of CLIA and CAP requirements for testing personnel.
  • Proficiency in Windows-style applications and keyboard for data entry.
