About the position
The Medical Laboratory Scientist at Ochsner Health is responsible for receiving and preparing specimens, performing laboratory tests, and ensuring quality control in a clinical setting. This role plays a crucial part in diagnosing and treating diseases by providing accurate laboratory data. The position requires adherence to safety and regulatory compliance while maintaining patient confidentiality.
Responsibilities
- Receive and prepare specimens according to standard protocols and procedures.
- Perform laboratory tests and calculations to provide data for diagnosis and treatment of disease.
- Conduct quality control procedures and evaluate test performance and results.
- Calibrate, maintain, and monitor equipment used in analytical determinations.
- Perform phlebotomy procedures as appropriate.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient-related information.
- Participate in performance improvement opportunities by assisting in data collection and analysis.
- Adhere to regulatory compliance guidelines and maintain awareness of accreditation standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
- Current license or temporary license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist-Generalist or Specialist in the state of practice.
- Meet CLIA and CAP requirements for testing personnel relative to scope of duties.
- ASCP certification as a Medical Technologist.
- Proficient computer skills and dexterity for data entry and retrieval of patient information.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
