About the position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Technician at Geisinger Medical Laboratories plays a crucial role in providing high-quality laboratory services to ensure exceptional patient care. This full-time position involves performing various analyses from multiple specimen sources, managing work processes efficiently, and maintaining productivity while adhering to established protocols. The role requires collaboration with team members and participation in training and educational activities to stay current in the field.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and reports various analyses from multiple specimen sources.
  • Provides the highest level of patient care and maximizes patient satisfaction.
  • Maintains an expected level of productivity and manages multiple work processes efficiently.
  • Completes tasks in a timely manner and handles specimens properly.
  • Confirms identification and specimen suitability, using appropriate accessioning procedures.
  • Recognizes discrepancies on patient orders and resolves and reports problems as appropriate.
  • Performs and records instrument maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality control.
  • Replenishes reagents and supplies according to established protocols.
  • Follows established reporting procedures, computerized, verbal, and manual as appropriate.
  • Navigates and accesses multiple computer applications as needed for job functionality.
  • Assists in the training and orientation of new employees.
  • Participates in educational activities to maintain current knowledge in the field.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college/university AND successful completion of an ASCP/NAACLS-accredited Medical Technology/Medical Laboratory Science program (for Medical Laboratory Scientist).
  • Bachelor of Science degree with a major in biological, chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science AND ASCP categorical certification (for Medical Laboratory Scientist).
  • Bachelor of Science degree with a major in biological, chemical, physical or clinical laboratory science AND at least two years' experience in a role equivalent to that of a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) in a clinical laboratory (for Medical Laboratory Scientist).
  • Associate degree in a laboratory science with certification (or eligible new graduate) from an accredited institution as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) (for Medical Laboratory Technician).
  • Military experience as a Medical Laboratory Specialist or related medical specialties is welcomed.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum of 1 year of laboratory experience (preferred).
  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology (preferred).
