Responsibilities

• Performs patient culture testing in Microbiology.
• Assumes responsibility and accountability for clinical laboratory testing related to patient care and diagnosis.
• Conducts routine and special laboratory procedures, quality control, preventative maintenance, and minor equipment repairs.
• Maintains inventory control and statistical compilation.
• Promotes professionalism and fosters a cooperative working environment.
• Ensures timely and accurate results of laboratory procedures.
• Processes specimens in accordance with laboratory guidelines.
• Communicates pertinent data about patients or laboratory samples to care providers.
• Maintains compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
• Demonstrates problem-solving skills to troubleshoot critical laboratory results.
• Participates in training and mentoring of new employees, students, or interns.
• Prioritizes and organizes workload to assist coworkers in maintaining productivity.
• Implements proper infection control practices and patient identification procedures.

Requirements

• Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a chemical, physical or biological science.
• Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technician studies or a related field.
• Medical Laboratory Scientist Certification (ASCP) or equivalent certification.
• Clinical Laboratory Scientist License.
• Laboratory experience, particularly in microbiology.
• Mid-level clinical laboratory experience.
• Strong communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

• Previous clinical laboratory experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Laboratory Scientist.
• Certification in a specific area, such as M(ASCP), H(ASCP), or C(ASCP).
• Experience in Microbiology.
