About the position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist, Specialist I/Technologist Specialist I position at ARUP Laboratories involves providing both technical and non-technical support within the laboratory, specifically focusing on Hematologic Flow Cytometry testing. The role requires a mastery of complex laboratory tasks, with responsibilities split evenly between performing laboratory tests and providing analytical support. This position is integral to maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of laboratory operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform all representative activities and accountabilities as defined by the Medical Laboratory Scientist Job Description/Primary Purpose.
  • Perform assigned testing and verification duties as scheduled.
  • Evaluate new procedures and update existing procedures.
  • Maintain continual compliance necessary to meet the standards of regulatory agencies.
  • Perform assessment of peers performing testing.
  • Function in a designated leadership role when supervisor or lead is not available.
  • Monitor standards of accuracy, precision, and efficiency in the performance of assays.
  • Ensure examination and reporting of patient and proficiency results for the specialty area.
  • Resolve and facilitate the resolution of problems in the specialty area.
  • Assess plausibility of laboratory results through correlation of data with physiological conditions.
  • Consult on specialty-related questions and assist with test transfers from Research and Development.
  • Monitor quality control and suggest corrective actions when needed.
  • Ensure QC inventory is maintained and up to date.
  • Monitor performance check systems and preventative maintenance programs for instruments.
  • Assist with evaluation and recommendation of new assays, software, instruments, or equipment.
  • Train employees and students in the specialty area and develop training modules as requested.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of supplies and reagents.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences or related field.
  • MLS (ASCP), MT(ASCP), MT (AAB), or applicable categorical ASCP or AAB certification.
  • 2 years of high complexity clinical diagnostic testing experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • ASCP Specialty certification or score 80% or better on a written placement evaluation.
