About the position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist Tech position at Kaiser Permanente involves performing routine and complex laboratory procedures under the guidance of laboratory management. The role requires independent judgment and critical thinking, with responsibilities spanning analytic, pre-analytic, and post-analytic tasks. The position also includes administrative duties and participation in training and compliance activities.

Responsibilities

  • Perform requested laboratory tests and special analyses according to established policies and procedures.
  • Prioritize laboratory testing and duties to ensure efficiency and timely reporting of results.
  • Utilize quality control procedures and document QC appropriately.
  • Recognize trends and unexpected patterns in test results and take appropriate action.
  • Perform calibration and maintain laboratory equipment, conducting routine safety checks and preventive maintenance.
  • Receive and process specimens, ensuring adequate and acceptable samples for analysis.
  • Release patient results in a timely manner and communicate with reference labs as needed.
  • Assist with workload recording and inventory control, monitoring pending lists per policy.
  • Respond to provider and clinical staff inquiries and support clinical point of care testing.
  • Participate in department meetings, continuing education, and training of new employees.

Requirements

  • Minimum one (1) year of post-registration MT/MLS experience.
  • Bachelor's degree and/or MT/MLS Registration or equivalent documentation from the state of Georgia.
  • GA Dept HR CLIA MT MLT Grnfthr OR American Board of Bioanalysis Medical Technologist Certificate OR American Medical Technologists Registered Medical Assistant Certificate OR Microbiology Technologist Certificate OR Medical Lab Technician Certificate OR Medical Technologist Certificate OR American Medical Technologist Medical Technologist Certificate OR Medical Lab Scientist Certificate.
  • Basic Life Support certification required at hire from American Heart Association.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology or four (4) years of experience in related health science.
