About the position

The Medical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for performing a variety of routine and complex analytic procedures on blood, bodily fluids, and specimens. This role involves using both manual techniques and laboratory instruments to ensure accurate testing, while applying clinical judgment to develop solutions and improve processes. The position requires collaboration with leadership to enhance laboratory operations and maintain compliance with safety and quality standards.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex analytic procedures on blood and bodily fluids.
• Utilize manual and automated techniques for laboratory testing.
• Evaluate instrument performance and quality control results.
• Correlate lab results with other data and disease states.
• Support the identification of causes for unexpected test results.
• Perform calibration, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
• Collaborate with leadership to improve processes and resolve issues.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information and ensure compliance with policies.
• Participate in quality assessment and improvement activities.
• Communicate with healthcare staff regarding laboratory results and procedures.
• Assist in the development of new test procedures and methodologies.
• Attend and present at continuing education and in-service programs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Medical Sciences, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biology, or a related field.
• Six months of experience in a similar role, such as Medical Laboratory Technologist or Clinical Laboratory Assistant.
• Experience must include laboratory safety standards, specimen collection procedures, and laboratory analysis techniques.
• Certification eligibility for ASCP MLS, AAB, or AMT.
