About the position

The Medical Laboratory Technologist in the Immunology Unit at the Georgia Department of Public Health is responsible for performing serological testing and supporting public health outbreak investigations. This role involves ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, conducting quality control, and training new staff while working within a collaborative and dynamic team environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical skills and ensure activities align with the goals of the Division of Clinical Microbiology.
  • Conduct day-to-day serological testing for Hepatitis (A, B, and C), HIV, Syphilis, TORCH panel, Vaccine Preventable Diseases, and Arboviruses.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulatory standards such as CLIA and OSHA.
  • Perform and document quality control and quality assurance in all areas of testing.
  • Review and report test results accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Assist in training new staff members in laboratory procedures.
  • Adhere to policies regarding the use and storage of laboratory reagents and supplies.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment and determine the need for repairs or replacements.
  • Compile results of method validation and performance verification.
  • Participate in required workplace training regarding safety in the laboratory environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related science area from an accredited college or university and two years of experience in a clinical laboratory.
  • Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) by a nationally accredited certifying agency such as ASCP or AMT.
  • Completion of an accredited medical technology program or equivalent training and experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a public health laboratory setting.
  • Knowledge of microbiology and serological testing procedures.
