About the position

Hanger, Inc. is seeking a Medical Office Administrator to provide essential administrative support to patients, employees, and referral sources. This role is pivotal in ensuring the smooth operation of front office activities within our orthotic and prosthetic services. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in administration, excellent computer skills, and a commitment to outstanding customer service. Responsibilities will include scheduling patient appointments, validating insurance and payment authorizations, inputting claims, processing payments, conducting account collections, and responding to telephone inquiries. In this position, you will be responsible for creating new patient charts and maintaining accurate patient records. You will also manage incoming phone calls, obtain insurance authorizations, and provide financial counseling for patients. Daily document research will be conducted using an electronic health/medical record system, ensuring that all patient information is complete and accurate. The role requires a high school diploma or GED, with less than one year of customer service or administrative experience. Candidates must also have a valid driver's license and meet the driving record standards outlined in Hanger's Motor Vehicle Safety Policy and Procedures. Preferred qualifications include 1-2 years of experience with electronic medical record systems, knowledge of HIPAA regulations, and proficiency in MS Office products. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent organizational skills, the ability to multitask, and a strong commitment to providing high-quality customer service. This position requires a resourceful team player who can build trusting relationships with a diverse population and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to patients, employees, and referral sources.
  • Schedule patient appointments and manage the appointment calendar.
  • Create and maintain new patient charts and patient records.
  • Scan and file patient documents, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Manage incoming phone calls and respond to inquiries.
  • Obtain insurance authorizations for patient services.
  • Provide financial counseling for patients and post over-the-counter payments.
  • Conduct daily document research on an electronic health/medical record system.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Less than 1 year of customer service, administration, or related experience.
  • Must have or be eligible to obtain a valid driver's license.
  • At least 1-2 years of experience with EMR/electronic health/medical record systems (preferably NextGen and/or OnBase).
  • Working knowledge of HIPAA and medical insurance regulations.
  • Ability to type 40 correct words per minute.
  • At least 2 years of experience with MS Office products (Word, Excel), email, and automated billing systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Associate's degree in a related field.
  • Basic administrative math accounting skills.
