About the position

The Medical Office Assistant (MOA) plays a crucial role in supporting the operations of the Hematology & Medical Oncology department at FirstHealth of the Carolinas. This position is primarily responsible for scheduling appointments, coordinating with infusion schedulers, and ensuring that patient appointments are organized efficiently. The MOA also handles patient payments, answers billing inquiries, processes medical records, and assists with new patient coordination, contributing to a seamless patient experience.

Responsibilities

  • Schedule physician follow-up appointments and coordinate with the Infusion scheduler.
  • Perform regular maintenance on provider schedules according to the On Call schedule.
  • Collect copays and payments from patients.
  • Answer basic billing questions and assist patients with inquiries.
  • Process medical records batches and manage incoming calls.
  • Work with the New Patient Coordinator to ensure new patients are scheduled appropriately.
  • Cross-train in Registration and New Patient Coordination as needed.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree preferred, but not required.
  • Three years of experience in a physician's office with scheduling and collections experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience with the Epic EMR system is a plus.
  • Strong office skills and knowledge of medical terminology and insurance terminology are beneficial.
  • Excellent communication and computer skills are required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with patient scheduling software.
