About the position

The position involves taking vital signs, recognizing emergencies, preparing and maintaining examination and treatment areas, interviewing patients, and taking their medical history. The role requires assisting physicians with examinations and treatments, maintaining medication records, and responding to medical emergencies. The candidate must apply principles of Aseptic Technique and Infection Control effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Performs accuchecks, UA dipstick, urine UCG, rapid strep test, and influenza test.
  • Takes vital signs including weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and head and chest circumference of children and adults attending the clinic.
  • Performs prior authorizations, electrocardiograms, ear lavage, pulmonary function tests, immunizations, injections, nursing, electronic medical record intake/documentation, and health reminders.
  • Maintains logs such as exam rooms, glucometer, weight scale, referrals, emergency bag, eye wash, and stock medication.
  • Provides patients with appointments.
  • Tracks referrals such as radiology, emergency room, hospital, etc.
  • Prepares work area for patients using universal precautions.
  • Orders and stocks work area with medical supplies as needed.
  • Assists physician with patient care, exams, and treatment.
  • Documents accurately in Electronic Health Record.
  • Operates and maintains facilities and equipment safely.
  • Performs CPR and first aid as necessary.
  • Administers medication as directed by physician.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with doctors, nurses, patients, and administration.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patient population in both verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to interpret, understand, and carry out instructions and orders.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited high school or GED program.
  • Graduate and receive certificate of completion from an accredited vocational/technical school in Medical Office Assistant.
  • Must be Registered/Certified with National Association for Healthcare Professionals or American Allied Health. Registration/certification must be kept current.
  • Two years' experience in this field preferred.
  • Must have a current BLS/CPR certificate.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred.
