About The Position

The Medical Office Assistant position is responsible for performing a variety of clerical duties within the Health & Human Services Agency. This role involves managing patient records, scheduling appointments, and providing information to patients and the public. The position requires effective communication skills and the ability to handle sensitive information while maintaining confidentiality.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.
  • At least six (6) months of increasingly responsible experience in a medical office environment or completion of a medical office support program from an accredited institution.
  • Knowledge of basic math functions and proper English grammar.
  • Ability to write and print clearly, maintain confidentiality, and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Skill in using a variety of office equipment, including personal computers for data entry.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of basic office procedures, computer programs, and clerical functions.
  • Experience with medical billing and insurance, and electronic health records.

Responsibilities

  • Perform general clerical duties related to assigned functional area and clinic department.
  • Act as a receptionist, answer the telephone, and register patients using the clinic computer system.
  • Schedule appointments and provide information on Department or Clinic policies and procedures.
  • Use electronic health records to manage detailed personal, demographic, medical, and billing information.
  • Sort and file documents, charts, and records, maintaining organized files.
  • Receive, sort, and distribute incoming and outgoing correspondence.
  • Issue, receive, log, and process records requests and other types of forms.
  • Accept payment of fees and maintain cash records.
  • Accurately record information in patient records and assist clients in completing application forms.
  • Screen clients for possible eligibility for Health assistance programs and review applications for accuracy.
  • Refer patients to appropriate designated social services staff and complete referral forms.
