About the position

Oneida Health is currently seeking a Full-time Medical Office Clerk for our General Surgery Office. The Medical Office Clerk (MOC) in the Practice Setting is responsible for making appointments for patients following medical practice procedures. This role involves coordinating, verifying, distributing, and managing all billable services to patients, ensuring exceptional patient experiences both safely and efficiently. The MOC will be the first point of contact for patients, providing a welcoming environment and assisting with various administrative tasks to support the clinical staff. In this position, the MOC will promptly and professionally answer telephone calls, route calls appropriately, and offer voicemail, paging, or redirection of calls as needed. Greeting visitors and assisting them as appropriate is also a key responsibility, including directing visitors to appropriate waiting areas. The MOC will maintain medical records, ensuring all related reports, labs, and information are filed or scanned and available in patients' medical records prior to their appointments. They will also flag abnormal results to the attention of the MD. The role requires scheduling appointments for patients either by phone or in person after an office visit, using computerized systems to match physician/clinician availability with patients' preferences in terms of date and time. The MOC will provide daily schedules to physicians/clinicians or medical assistants prior to each day's visits and communicate with the office leader or nurse manager about any patient concerns or issues related to scheduling. Additionally, the MOC will coordinate with clinical staff to obtain charge information for all patients, verify and complete charge information in the medical database, and process and balance cash drawers against total collected, completing daily bank deposits. Other non-clinical duties may be assigned as needed.
