About the position

The Medical Office Clerk (MOC) for Pulmonary at Oneida Health is responsible for managing patient appointments, coordinating billable services, and ensuring exceptional patient experiences. This role involves a variety of administrative tasks, including answering calls, greeting visitors, maintaining medical records, and handling financial transactions related to patient care.

Responsibilities

  • Promptly and professionally answers telephone calls and routes them appropriately.
  • Greets visitors and assists them as appropriate, directing them to waiting areas and screening solicitors.
  • Maintains medical records, ensuring all reports and labs are filed and available prior to patient appointments.
  • Flags abnormal results for the attention of the MD.
  • Identifies patients with ED or Hospital Admission and obtains discharge summaries.
  • Contacts patients for follow-up care as needed.
  • Explains financial requirements to patients and collects copayments.
  • Schedules appointments for patients via phone or in person, following urgent/emergency protocols when necessary.
  • Uses computerized systems to match physician availability with patient preferences.
  • Generates gap lists and calls patients to schedule appointments.
  • Maintains an accurate scheduling system for analysis of patient/staffing patterns.
  • Provides daily schedules to physicians and medical assistants prior to visits.
  • Ensures updates to the master schedule are made daily.
  • Communicates patient concerns related to scheduling with office leadership.
  • Uses customer service principles to interact with patients pleasantly.
  • Coordinates with clinical staff to obtain charge information for patients.
  • Verifies insurance eligibility and copayments via websites.
  • Processes and balances cash drawers and completes daily bank deposits.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of one year experience preferred.
