About the position

BJC HealthCare is seeking a Full-Time Medical Secretary at our outpatient Rheumatology Office located at 3023 North Ballas Rd. Suite 500 D, St. Louis, MO 63131. This position is essential in providing administrative support to physicians in a medical office setting. The Medical Office Secretary will be responsible for managing incoming patient calls, maintaining the in-basket, handling prior authorizations, and managing referrals. The role requires performing various administrative tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the office. The working hours for this position are Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. The Medical Office Secretary will be tasked with making office visit appointments and hospital appointments for tests and admissions, while also obtaining the necessary referrals, forms, and other pertinent information. Educating patients on procedures for hospital tests and admissions is a key responsibility, as well as dispatching finished medical records to the appropriate parties as directed. The secretary will maintain records of incoming communications and complete transcriptions, ensuring that all information is accurately documented. Additionally, the role involves taking incoming calls and determining the appropriate care service to administer to patients, as well as managing physician schedules effectively. This position is ideal for candidates with a background in medical office settings, particularly those with experience in roles such as Medical Office Assistant, Medical Billing Specialist, Medical Administrative Assistant, Medical Records, Patient Coordinator, Patient Advocate, Patient Service Specialist, or Medical Receptionist. Candidates with 5+ years of experience in a medical office setting are preferred, along with strong customer service skills and familiarity with EPIC software.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 2-5 years of experience in a medical office setting.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Experience with EPIC software preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in a medical office setting (preferred).
