About the position

The Medical Operations Director at Best Friends Animal Society is responsible for leading the operational support teams for animal care at the Sanctuary in Kanab, Utah. This role focuses on providing veterinary services and ensuring efficient cross-department operations to meet the organization's no-kill objectives. The director is tasked with fostering a positive work culture, managing budgets, and overseeing the veterinary services while partnering with various teams to enhance animal care and support initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Lead the operational support teams for animal care departments at the Sanctuary.
• Develop efficient methods for providing shelter medicine and long-term patient care.
• Collaborate with Sanctuary Experience Leadership to support operational needs across teams.
• Work with Animal Care leadership and the Volunteer department to manage foster and transport needs.
• Define and execute lifesaving operational objectives related to veterinary medicine.
• Create a supportive work environment that promotes growth and maximizes lifesaving impact.
• Oversee the veterinary services budget, managing expenses and revenues.
• Ensure the maintenance of a safe workplace and adherence to safety practices.

Requirements

• 5+ years of leadership experience in animal operations with a lifesaving focus.
• Experience in overseeing animal sheltering or veterinary medicine operations.
• Strong skills in utilizing statistical information for strategic planning.
• Customer-centric approach to engaging with various stakeholders.
• Excellent communication and public speaking skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and familiarity with shelter management software.
