The Medical Physicist will work under the direction of the chief physicist and collaborate closely with physicians, administrators, technologists, and other healthcare professionals to assure diagnostic image quality and optimize radiation doses across all imaging devices. The role involves staying current with advancements in imaging technology, maintaining board certification, and ensuring compliance with all relevant documentation and regulatory standards. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to hold an academic appointment on the clinical track in the Department of Imaging, demonstrating a commitment to continuous self-improvement and effective contributions to the team. Adherence to Cedars-Sinai's compliance plans, codes of conduct, and departmental policies is essential. Key responsibilities include reviewing and evaluating clinical protocols for the safe and optimal use of imaging devices, conducting acceptance tests on new equipment, overseeing quality assurance programs, tracking radiation doses, performing patient dose calculations, and teaching radiology resident courses. The Medical Physicist will also design appropriate radiation shielding for site planning and participate in application-based imaging research, contributing to the advancement of the field through presentations at national conferences and publications.

Responsibilities

  • Review and evaluate clinical protocols to ensure safe and optimal use of imaging devices.
  • Conduct acceptance tests on new equipment and perform timely physics surveys for all radiation diagnostic imaging devices, including mammography and nuclear medicine.
  • Oversee the quality assurance program, including ACR/ICA accreditation, and implement appropriate actions as needed.
  • Track radiation doses and maintain compliance with Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies, utilizing results to improve clinical practice.
  • Perform patient dose calculations from various imaging modalities as needed.
  • Teach radiology resident courses and provide lectures to physicians and technologists on imaging physics, safe use of imaging devices, and quality assurance.
  • Design appropriate radiation shielding for site planning.
  • Participate in application-based imaging research, submit abstracts to national conferences, and publish findings.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in Medical Physics or related field required.
  • PhD in Medical Physics preferred.
  • Certification by American Board of Radiology (ABR) with ABR and MQSA certifications preferred, but candidates that are ABR eligible will be considered.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience with Diagnostic Imaging, Physics, and/or Radiation Safety required.
  • 5 years of experience preferred.
