About the position

The Medical Physicist at Glens Falls Hospital provides essential medical physics support primarily for the Radiation Oncology Department, while also assisting other departments that utilize radiation-producing equipment or radioactive materials. This role is crucial in ensuring the safety and effectiveness of radiation therapy treatments, contributing to the hospital's mission of delivering exceptional patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Intensity Modulated Radiotherapy (IMRT) treatment planning.
  • Perform conventional 3D treatment planning.
  • Conduct weekly patient chart reviews.
  • Participate in weekly chart rounds.
  • Perform in-vivo dosimetry.
  • Conduct patient-specific IMRT quality assurance (QA).
  • Perform second checks of IMRT and conventional treatment plans.
  • Conduct manual calculation checks on computerized treatment plan monitor units.
  • Perform monthly testing of all measurement equipment.
  • Conduct Low and High dose Rate treatment planning.

Requirements

  • M.S. in Radiological Sciences/Medical Physics.
  • Minimum of three years of Medical Physicist experience.
  • Board certification in Therapeutic Radiological Physics by the American Board of Radiology.
  • Professional License in Therapeutic Radiological Physics by the New York State Education Department.
  • Understanding of radiation physics, medical physics, radiobiology, accelerators, simulators, brachytherapy equipment, treatment planning systems, and radiation safety.
