About the position

UNM Medical Group, Inc. is seeking a Medical Radiation Dosimetrist to join the UNM Comprehensive Cancer Center. This full-time position involves performing treatment planning and quality assurance services related to radiation therapy under the supervision of qualified professionals. The role is crucial in ensuring that treatment plans are safe and effective, while also participating in research and the development of new procedures.

Responsibilities

• Generates patient treatment plans for all available treatment planning systems.
• Views imaging data for positions and size of lesions, develops patient contours, and creates treatment plans.
• Evaluates treatment plans for potential errors using established QA checklists.
• Performs calculations for the accurate delivery of the prescribed dose and verifies the mathematical accuracy of all calculations.
• Communicates with radiation therapists and advises on the implementation of treatment plans.
• Participates in patient treatment planning simulations.
• Supervises or assists in the planning and production of immobilization devices and beam modifying devices.
• Supervises or assists in simulations and tumor localization using imaging modalities like CT, MRI, and PET.
• Participates in clinical and departmental research, including the development of new radiation therapy procedures.
• Assists in the development of policy and procedures for treatment planning to improve accuracy and efficiency.
• Participates in departmental performance quality improvement (PQI) studies.
• Ensures compliance with regulatory guidelines and protocol adherence.
• Supervises or participates in the training and education of students.

Requirements

• Current Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) accreditation or eligibility required.
• One year clinical dosimetry experience preferred.
• Completed degree from an accredited institution may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis.
