About the position

The Medical Receptionist/Biller/Coder position at Lincoln Surgical Group PC involves managing the billing cycle for a small independent general surgery practice. The role requires a detail-oriented individual with extensive experience in medical billing, insurance claims, and coding, who will work closely with the practice manager and healthcare providers to ensure accurate billing and patient record management.

Responsibilities

  • Verify patient insurance coverage and process claims for reimbursement
  • Follow up on unpaid or denied claims and resolve billing discrepancies
  • Maintain patient records and ensure confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Process prior authorizations for upcoming procedures, surgeries, and/or radiology procedures
  • Process referrals for VA Care in the Community and Tricare patients for additional services
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to obtain necessary documentation for billing purposes
  • Retrieve reports/data from outside entities and attach to our EMR
  • Posting of patient and insurance payments
  • Scheduling of patient appointments
  • Answer overflow of multi-line phone system
  • Process monthly patient statements
  • Process delinquent accounts for collections
  • Process payments over the phone and set up payment plans
  • Answer patient/insurance/attorney questions about billed charges, denials, etc.
  • Process faxed documents in our inbox and assign to staff/attach to patient
  • Check in patients for appointments

Requirements

  • Prior experience preferred in a medical setting
  • Proficiency in medical terminology, coding CPT and ICD10, and billing software (EPIC and eClinicalworks preferred)
  • Knowledge of insurance guidelines and reimbursement processes
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in billing procedures
  • Excellent communication skills to interact with patients, healthcare providers, and insurance companies
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks
  • Knowledge of multi-line phone system
  • Strong 10 key and typing skills
