About the position

The Medical Receptionist for the Cardiology department at Premier Medical Group of the Hudson Valley plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the office. This full-time position involves a variety of responsibilities centered around patient interaction and administrative support. The Medical Receptionist is the first point of contact for patients, responsible for answering incoming calls, directing them to the appropriate staff, and greeting patients as they arrive for their appointments. This role requires a friendly demeanor and excellent communication skills to create a welcoming environment for patients. In addition to greeting and checking in patients, the Medical Receptionist is tasked with managing essential paperwork. This includes ensuring that patients complete necessary forms, scanning insurance cards, and entering demographic information into the electronic health record (EHR) system. The role also involves entering referrals for office visits into the EHR and scanning documents for staff as needed. The Medical Receptionist must work closely with physicians and other staff members to facilitate efficient patient care and maintain compliance with federal guidelines and Meaningful Use standards for electronic medical records. The position also requires the Medical Receptionist to schedule follow-up appointments, monitor patient schedules for the next day, and assist in the ordering and stocking of office supplies. Maintaining a clean and organized waiting room is also part of the job, as is assisting other Medical Receptionists when necessary. The Medical Receptionist must be adaptable and willing to take on additional duties as assigned, ensuring that the office runs smoothly and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Answer incoming calls and direct them to appropriate staff.
  • Greet and check in all patients for office appointments.
  • Obtain and verify patient demographic and insurance information at each visit.
  • Scan pertinent patient information into the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Obtain patient authorization for medical records release in compliance with HIPAA.
  • Schedule necessary appointments after patient visits.
  • Monitor and review patient schedules for next day office appointments.
  • Assist in ordering, receiving, and stocking of office supplies.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the waiting room.
  • Assist other Medical Receptionists as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a High School diploma; Associate degree preferred.
  • At least one year of relevant experience and/or training.
  • Knowledge of Medent or other EMR systems preferred.
  • Strong customer service and organizational skills.
  • Strong multi-tasking skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and accept direction on assignments.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with administration and staff.
