The Medical Receptionist at East Compton Clinic, part of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital, plays a crucial role in ensuring a smooth and efficient operation of the medical office. This position is primarily responsible for greeting patients, managing the check-in and check-out processes, and maintaining a clean and welcoming environment in the waiting area. The Medical Receptionist will handle a high volume of patients, requiring exceptional customer service skills and the ability to multitask effectively. The role involves managing patient demographics and insurance information with accuracy and attention to detail, ensuring that all necessary documentation is collected and entered into the electronic medical records (EMR) system. In addition to patient registration, the Medical Receptionist will answer phones, schedule appointments, and assist patients with inquiries about the clinic. The position requires effective time management and collaboration with back office staff to ensure that patients are seen promptly. The Medical Receptionist must also maintain confidentiality regarding patient information and adhere to all policies and procedures of the clinic. This role is essential in optimizing patient satisfaction and provider time, ensuring that the clinic operates efficiently and effectively. The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or GED, with at least one year of experience in a medical front office setting. Bilingual skills in Spanish are required, as the Medical Receptionist will interact with a diverse patient population. The ability to maintain a professional demeanor and provide compassionate care to patients is essential for success in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Warmly greet all patients and visitors as soon as they enter the office suite/waiting area, ensuring exceptional customer service at all times.
  • Assist patients in signing in upon their arrival to the center.
  • Obtain appropriate signatures, documents, and enter the information into the office EMR system ensuring accuracy.
  • Answer front desk telephone and obtain necessary information from callers to resolve their questions or route them to the correct persons/department efficiently.
  • Schedule patients as needed from various scheduling queues, including rescheduling and post-discharge calls.
  • Answer questions about the organization and provide callers with address, directions, and other information.
  • Perform clerical duties such as filing, photocopying, and maintaining stock of required documents for patient check-in.
  • Optimize patient satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization while patients are in the practice.
  • Keep patient appointments on schedule by notifying providers of patient arrivals and service delays.
  • Comfort patients by anticipating anxieties, answering questions, and maintaining the reception area.
  • Ensure availability of treatment information by filing and retrieving patient records within the EMR.
  • Maintain patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information.
  • Maintain front office inventory and equipment by checking stock levels and placing orders for supplies.
  • Help any patient in distress by responding to emergencies.
  • Protect patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information.
  • Maintain operations by following policies and procedures; report needed changes.
  • Contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in a medical front office setting or similar.
  • At least one (1) year of experience with direct handling of insurance eligibility/verification.
  • Medical Assistant front office experience is preferred.
  • Ability to maintain a professional and patient care oriented attitude.
  • Must be able to multitask.
  • Ability to read and speak Spanish is required.
