About the position

The Medical Receptionist position at Care New England Medical Group is a temporary role based in Warwick, RI. This position is crucial for ensuring that patients have a positive experience when interacting with the office. The Medical Receptionist will be responsible for a variety of tasks that contribute to the smooth operation of the practice. This includes answering telephone calls, directing them appropriately, and managing patient check-ins and check-outs. The role requires a strong focus on customer service, as the receptionist is often the first point of contact for patients. In addition to managing phone calls, the Medical Receptionist will verify patient demographic information using the practice management system, scan insurance cards, collect copayments and deductibles, and ensure that all necessary paperwork is completed. The receptionist will also be responsible for scheduling follow-up appointments and printing schedules and superbills for the next day's provider visits. At the end of each shift, the receptionist will batch out and coordinate superbills, checking charge slips and verifying copays with cash collected. Maintaining an accurate daily log of exams performed and sorting mail/packages presented to the front desk are also key responsibilities. The role may involve performing other related duties as needed to support the office's operations.

Responsibilities

  • Checks patients in and out.
  • Verifies demographic information via the computer and practice management system.
  • Scans the insurance card and collects appropriate copayments/deductibles.
  • Obtains necessary signatures and paperwork and makes follow-up appointments.
  • Answers front desk telephones and directs calls as appropriate.
  • Prints schedules and superbills for next-day provider visits.
  • Batches out at the end of the shift.
  • Coordinates superbills, checking charge slips and verifies copays with cash collected.
  • Maintains an accurate daily log of exams performed.
  • Sorts mail/packages presented to the front desk and directs to appropriate source.
  • Disperses any incoming faxes to the appropriate source.
  • Performs all other related duties as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma required.
  • Minimum of six months job-related experience or equivalent is required.
  • Ability to deal with and maintain confidential information.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and ability to calculate and collect cash transactions.
  • Must possess good interpersonal skills, including excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively with staff, physicians, and patients in a courteous manner.
