About the position

The Medical Receptionist at St. Luke's University Health Network plays a crucial role in the operation of a medical office by performing various administrative and receptionist duties. This position is responsible for maintaining patient records, scheduling appointments, and ensuring patient satisfaction while supporting the healthcare team. The Medical Receptionist will work under the supervision of the practice manager and collaborate with healthcare providers to enhance the quality of care provided to patients.

Responsibilities

  • Perform office duties and recordkeeping functions to assist in the operation of a medical office.
  • Answer phones courteously within three rings, identifying self and practice, and prioritizing the nature of incoming calls.
  • Maintain patient and physician office schedules, scheduling patient appointments according to practice guidelines.
  • Greet patients in a polite and prompt manner, registering them according to practice guidelines and verifying demographics and insurance information.
  • Capture any barriers to care, such as language or vision issues, and provide necessary assistance to patients.
  • Establish and maintain accurate patient records and filing systems, ensuring a consistent patient flow and advising patients of any delays.
  • Review charge slips submitted by physicians, accurately entering charge information and assisting with coding.
  • Collect amounts due at the time of service and provide patient education regarding insurance and balances owed.
  • Process requests for medical records according to practice, state, and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Coordinate supplies and equipment needs with various departments and vendors.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • One year of medical administrative support or office experience is required.
  • Preference for graduates of accredited medical assistant/administrative training programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Physician Billing computer systems.
  • Familiarity with various insurance company policies.
