About the position

The Medical Receptionist position is a part-time role based in Brooklyn, NY, specifically designed for weekends. The primary responsibility of the Medical Receptionist is to manage the reception and front desk area, ensuring a welcoming and professional environment for patients and visitors. This role involves greeting all patients and visitors, checking them in and out for their appointments, and directing them appropriately within the facility. The Medical Receptionist will oversee the day-to-day operations of the front desk, which includes answering all telephone calls and directing them to the appropriate parties. The position requires the Medical Receptionist to work every Saturday and Sunday from 6:30 AM to 11:30 AM, totaling 10 hours per week. In addition to greeting visitors, the Medical Receptionist will verify patient demographic information confidentially, collect and record payments, and operate standard office equipment such as fax machines, credit card processors, copy machines, and scanners. The role also involves interacting with medical and billing staff, responding to patient inquiries, and ensuring timely communication with staff to maintain patient flow. The Medical Receptionist will be responsible for checking the answering machine for messages and responding to or forwarding them as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Welcome/greet visitors in a friendly and warm manner
  • Check patients in and out for visits
  • Verify patient demographic information in a confidential manner
  • Collect and record balance, copay and self-pay cycle payments
  • Operate standard office equipment including fax, credit card, copy machine and scanner
  • Interact with medical and billing staff
  • Answer/respond to patient non-clinical inquiries and direct all clinical questions to appropriate clinical staff
  • Communicate via email and phone with staff to maintain timely patient flow
  • Consistently check answering machine for messages and respond to/forward as necessary

Requirements

  • 1 year receptionist experience in the healthcare industry
  • High school graduate required; associates degree preferred
  • Strong phone skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Good written/verbal skills and attention to accuracy
  • Capable of using computerized appointment scheduling systems or electronic medical record (EMR) system
  • Ability to multi-task and handle busy front desk while maintaining composure
  • Ability to exercise tact in dealing with sensitive, complex and confidential patient issues and situations
  • Ability to take direction and prioritize as needed

Nice-to-haves

  • Spanish or Russian speaking preferred but not mandatory
  • 1 year customer service experience preferred
  • 1 year computer skills preferred
