About the position

The Medical Receptionist at Optum plays a crucial role in providing exceptional service to patients and managing the front office operations of a medical facility. This position involves greeting patients, handling check-in and check-out processes, managing medical records, and ensuring a smooth patient flow. The Medical Receptionist is essential in creating a welcoming environment and supporting the healthcare team in delivering quality care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional service to all customers
  • Greet patients as they arrive and manage wait time
  • Complete check-in and check-out tasks including insurance verification
  • Collect co-payments, co-insurance, and deductibles and issue receipts
  • Manage cashier box and daily deposits according to company policies
  • Process walk-in patients and visitors
  • Answer phones and schedule appointments, verifying visit type and provider
  • Redirect calls appropriately and assist callers with questions or concerns
  • Manage medical records, including maintenance, filing/scanning, and processing requests
  • Ensure waiting room cleanliness and communicate pertinent information to patients
  • Work with back office staff to ensure smooth patient flow
  • Resolve service issues and complaints, deferring to management when necessary
  • Assist co-workers and team members with duties as requested
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
  • 1+ years of customer service-related experience
  • 1+ years of experience with MS Office

Nice-to-haves

  • 1+ years of experience in a medical office or medical environment
  • 1+ years of experience with vision insurances
  • 1+ years of experience with medical benefits, specifically for eyecare
  • Previous experience with medical insurance
  • ICD 10 and CPT coding experience
  • Prior experience with EMR computer applications
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Working knowledge of general office procedures
