About the position

Aspirus Ironwood Hospital in Ironwood, MI is seeking a dedicated and professional Medical Receptionist to join our team. The Medical Receptionist plays a crucial role in ensuring that patients receive a warm welcome and efficient service upon their arrival. This position involves greeting and registering patients, scheduling appointments, and maintaining accurate registration records. The Medical Receptionist is also responsible for answering phone calls, providing routine information to callers, and transferring calls to the appropriate individuals in a courteous and professional manner. This role is essential in creating a positive first impression for patients and their families, as well as supporting the overall operations of the healthcare facility. The Medical Receptionist will work full-time, with a commitment of 80 hours per pay period. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of office procedures, preferably with experience in a healthcare setting. Familiarity with medical terminology is highly desirable, as is the ability to communicate effectively with patients, staff, and the public. The role requires excellent organizational skills, the ability to prioritize tasks, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality in all aspects of work. The Medical Receptionist will be expected to adapt to changes in a fast-paced environment while providing exceptional service to all patients. Responsibilities

  • Greet, register, and assist patients in a professional manner.
  • Efficiently schedule patient appointments according to established parameters defined by office policy and procedure.
  • Obtain and maintain complete and accurate registration records.
  • Answer all phone calls, provide routine information to callers, and transfer calls to the appropriate individual in a courteous and professional manner.

Requirements

  • Completion of a High School diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • One to two years of experience in a healthcare setting, with familiarity with medical terminology preferred.
  • One year of business office, customer service, or healthcare experience preferred.
  • Basic computer experience and keyboarding skills required.
  • Knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation to type patient information accurately.
  • Ability to file and maintain patient records, files, and other correspondence.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with patients, employees, and the public.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with a high degree of professionalism.
  • Ability to anticipate and willingly accept the need for change with time constraints.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all phases of work.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws regarding HIPAA and release of information.
