Responsibilities

• Contact attending physicians to obtain additional information as required.
• Interpret physician notes and recompose them in lay terminology.
• Maintain suspense on cases and respond to inquiries regarding status.
• Determine chargeable reports and collect fees.
• Research medical records and abstract necessary information.
• Compose correspondence to transmit medical information and/or data.
• Type a variety of materials using word processing equipment and/or standard office applications.

Requirements

• One year of specialized experience in medical terminology and/or medical records management.
• Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) guidelines.
• Experience in analyzing, processing, reviewing, and maintaining medical records.
• Ability to compile or extract medical records data using office automation systems.
• Education: Four years of education above high school level in an accredited institution.
