This includes maintaining patient records, providing clerical and phone support, and ensuring that all documents are filed accurately and regularly. The role requires a keen attention to detail, as the clerk will audit patient discharge charts and follow up to provide any missing data consistently. In addition to record maintenance, the Medical Records Clerk will photocopy materials, correspondence, and reports as requested, and will be responsible for making and distributing client records. Ordering patient supplies in a timely manner is also part of the job, along with maintaining a neat and clean supply room and ensuring proper inventories are kept. The clerk will log faxes in the appropriate lab book, verify that lab reports are received, and fax blood work and labs daily, ensuring that log books are accurate and complete. Customer service is a key component of this role, as the Medical Records Clerk will answer phones courteously, take accurate messages, and assist visitors, patients, and staff by directing them to the appropriate locations. The clerk will also assist the Medical Records Coordinator in maintaining employee files, ensuring that all filing and scanning is up to date and completed in a timely manner. Flexibility is important, as the clerk may be assigned other duties or projects as needed, and adherence to organizational competencies and standards of behavior is expected. The role also involves some physical demands, including lifting, pushing, and pulling a minimum of 10 lbs., and standing for a minimum of 4 hours a day.
