About the position

As a Medical Records Specialist at LewisGale Hospital Montgomery, you will play a crucial role in managing and maintaining the integrity of medical records. Your primary responsibilities will include prepping, scanning, and indexing medical documents to ensure that all patient information is accurately recorded and easily accessible. This position is essential for the smooth operation of the hospital's medical records department, contributing to the overall efficiency of patient care services. In this role, you will retrieve discharged medical records from various departments within the hospital, ensuring that all records are accounted for and reconciled. You will prepare medical records and loose documents for scanning, ensuring that they are in the correct format and ready for digital entry. Scanning medical record documents will be a significant part of your daily tasks, as will indexing these documents to maintain an organized and efficient filing system. Quality control is a critical aspect of this position. You will perform quality checks on scanned records to validate that all documents associated with each record have been accurately scanned. Additionally, you will be responsible for shredding scanned records in accordance with retention requirements, ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory standards. This role requires attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining the confidentiality and security of patient information.

Responsibilities

  • Retrieves discharged medical records from various departments in the hospital and reconciles them to ensure that all records are accounted for.
  • Prepares medical records and loose documents for scanning.
  • Scans medical record documents.
  • Indexes medical record documentation.
  • Performs quality control validation to ensure that all documents associated with each record have been scanned correctly.
  • Conducts quality checks and shredding of scanned records per retention requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Hospital or medical office experience preferred, but not required.
  • Previous experience in handling patient health information, medical records document imaging, and/or medical records is strongly preferred.
  • Completion of a certification program from the state(s) may be required for birth certificate processing, with training and course fees provided.
